Rabat zoo adds 72 animals to its Vivarium collection
The new arrivals represent 21 African species of reptiles and amphibians.

Rabat’s National Zoological Garden is adding 72 animals from 21 African reptile and amphibian species to its Vivarium, Hespress Français reported on 18 October 2026. The animal count is therefore distinct from the number of species.
The arrivals include Nile monitors, Anchieta’s pythons, panther chameleons, African bullfrogs and Madagascar giant day geckos. The selection brings together animals from different habitats, extending beyond desert reptiles.
According to the same report, veterinary and zoological teams monitored the new animals during quarantine. Their move into the Vivarium displays is taking place gradually following health checks and behavioural observation.
Opened in 2019, the Vivarium covers around 1,700 square metres and takes visitors through six biogeographical zones. The expanded collection adds to its representation of African habitats. The announcement does not establish that all 72 animals are already on view at the same time.
