Laurent Nuñez announced a provisional tally of 1,800 arrests on Sunday 18 October 2026 following violence in France on Saturday and overnight. Hespress Français reported the interior minister’s statement in its morning edition.

The minister also reported injuries to more than 500 police officers, gendarmes and firefighters. This figure covers those three groups and is not a count of everyone injured during the mobilisation.

The statement, posted on X according to Hespress, makes clear that the tally remains provisional. Totals may change as services submit further reports. They should not be added to interim figures announced the previous day.

These figures describe the authorities’ response to incidents; they do not establish that all demonstrators were responsible for them. An arrest is not a conviction. The minister also reaffirmed the right to demonstrate while condemning violence and property damage.
