Abdallah Laroui’s positions on the Moroccan Sahara are the subject of a study by Mohamed Zaoui, discussed by Montasser Hamada in Hespress on 19 October 2026. Le360 had already presented the book on 27 April, so it is not a release from today.

Its Arabic title can be translated as “Abdallah Laroui’s positions on the Moroccan Sahara question: a lesson in informed national consciousness”. Both accounts attribute the work to Mohamed Zaoui and the Morocco al-Aqsa Centre.

According to these presentations, the author brings together Laroui’s historical writings, interviews and political reflections. He examines the Sahara’s place within a way of thinking about the state, nationhood and modernisation, rather than separating individual positions from their intellectual context.

The interpretation is Zaoui’s reading of Laroui’s work. Keeping that distinction helps separate the researcher’s analysis from the thinker’s texts he studies. It places the book within discussion of the relationship between historical consciousness and national commitment.
