Morocco and Mali drew 1-1 in a friendly at the Grand Stade de Tanger on Sunday, 4 October. Morocco’s official national team account confirmed the result that evening. The Atlas Lions took the lead before conceding an equaliser in the second half.

According to SNRT News’ report of 4 October, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli put Morocco ahead. The public broadcaster described a first half controlled by the Moroccans, with smoother passing and more attempts than their opponents.

The balance shifted after the break. SNRT News reported stronger Malian attacking pressure and a save by Yassine Bounou to protect Morocco’s lead. Gaoussou Diarra eventually equalised in the 77th minute following a free kick delivered towards the far post.

The result changes no qualification standings: this was a friendly. Its sporting significance lies in the contrast between the halves. Morocco took the lead but could not retain it when Mali stepped up their attacks. For supporters at home and abroad, that change of tempo provides context for the final score.
