Ahmed Touizi elected Speaker: what the 369 ballots count
The PAM candidate receives 220 votes against 59 for Driss El Azami. The 90 invalid ballots must be distinguished from votes attributed to candidates.

Ahmed Touizi of the Authenticity and Modernity Party was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday 13 October 2026. MFM’s report published that day gives him 220 votes against 59 for Driss El Azami El Idrissi of the Justice and Development Party, described as the opposition candidate.
The result also includes 90 invalid ballots. Adding the three categories gives the 369 ballots recorded in the report. Votes attributed to the two candidates total 279.
This distinction avoids reading 369 as that many valid choices between candidates. It also does not allow political attribution of invalid ballots: the published number reveals neither who cast them nor their motives.
The ballot therefore provides a result for the Speaker’s post. It does not alone describe how each group voted or its positions on future legislation. Ballot counts and analysis of alliances require separate evidence.
