World Teachers’ Day on Monday, 5 October 2026 marks sixty years since the 1966 ILO-UNESCO Recommendation concerning teachers’ status. In its official programme consulted on 5 October, UNESCO places recognition and protection of the profession at the centre of this edition.

The organisation highlights difficulties involving salaries, workloads and professional support. It also includes migration among current challenges. The quality of teaching therefore depends on the resources available to the adults welcoming pupils, as well as on curricula.

For families in Morocco, the Maghreb and the diaspora, this framework helps identify practical questions for schools: how is a newly arrived child supported, and what communication with their teacher is possible? This reading of the theme is not an announcement of a new national measure.

The celebration at UNESCO headquarters in Paris is scheduled for 5 October, with discussions and the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development ceremony. The online programme confirms the date; this article does not present the discussions or results as already having taken place.
