Casablanca-Settat: maintaining drains does not guarantee no overflows

The SRM’s dredging figures cover a year of activity. They describe preventive measures without predicting the impact of future rainfall.

SRM Casablanca-Settat reports strengthened preventive maintenance of its sewer networks. According to LeSiteinfo’s report published on 12 October, more than 3,167 kilometres were cleaned from September 2025 to late August 2026, representing 25% of the regional network. This is an annual assessment, not work performed in a single day.

Cleaning removes material that can impede flow. Cleaning, infrastructure maintenance and treatment of sensitive locations are described as parts of the system. Coordination with local authorities is intended to facilitate the organisation of interventions.

These figures describe maintenance activity reported by the company. They do not alone measure every neighbourhood’s ability to handle a rainfall episode. Completed works and the absence of future overflows are two different types of information.

Monitoring would therefore benefit from relating announced resources to interventions actually observed and continuing local difficulties. This report concerns prevention and infrastructure management; it draws no weather forecast from those figures.
