Morocco’s car market: electrified does not mean fully electric

Electrified powertrains accounted for 17.8% of new passenger car sales in Morocco from January to September 2026, compared with 11.4% a year earlier. Hespress and LesEcoAuto report these figures attributed to AIVAM, the vehicle importers’ association.

Electrified powertrains accounted for 17.8% of new passenger car sales in Morocco from January to September 2026, compared with 11.4% a year earlier. Hespress and LesEcoAuto report these figures attributed to AIVAM, the vehicle importers’ association.

This category includes several technologies, including hybrids. Fully electric cars remain at 0.9% of the market, with 1,497 units. Conflating the two shares would therefore misrepresent the position of fully electric cars.

Diesel retains 63.5% of new passenger car sales. Its share is falling, but that alone does not establish a fall in the number of diesel vehicles sold.

These figures describe new vehicle purchases over nine months, not the entire fleet on the road. They measure neither buyers’ motivations nor real-world emissions. The changing market mix deserves attention with these limits in mind.
