The announced timetable provides for a shortlist in March 2027 to enter Strategic Dialogue. Preferred Hosts would be invited into Targeted Dialogue in December 2028, ahead of an election expected in mid-2029. Projects are to be presented in November; no additional interested parties would be considered after 31 October 2026.
The Qatar Olympic Committee confirmed its status on 6 October. Fatima Al Kuwari, CEO of the Doha 2036 bid committee, describes this step as the start of a long journey. The bid’s stated ambition must be distinguished from a decision by the International Olympic Committee.
The Olympic Council of Asia lists venues, athlete experience, funding, public and political support, delivery capabilities and lasting benefits for host communities among the assessment factors. Our reading of the timetable is that the next stages will assess the projects; participation in the current dialogue does not determine the eventual choice.
