The House of the Worlds of Books has launched its first cultural gatherings at the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat, Hespress reported on 17 October 2026. The project forms part of the year in which the Moroccan capital holds Unesco’s World Book Capital title.

According to the report, the Academy’s permanent secretary Abdeljalil Lahjomri presented an initial selection of 54 books representing 54 African countries. It is intended as the starting point for a growing library attentive to written heritage and oral traditions.

Two spaces in Rabat are planned for literary residencies and intellectual exchanges. Writers Wole Soyinka and Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, both Nobel laureates in literature, spoke at the launch, according to Hespress.

The stated aim is to encourage the circulation of works and meetings between authors and researchers beyond a single event. The start of activities at the Academy does not, however, specify opening hours for the future venues or participation arrangements for residencies.
