Morocco’s Project Soar in a Bag received the 2026 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education. The award was presented in Paris on 9 October alongside CARE Peru’s Girls with Opportunities project. UNESCO’s official announcement confirms the report published by Hespress Français.

The Moroccan initiative supports disadvantaged adolescent girls to build confidence, understand their rights and prepare for their futures. It combines this support with community mobilisation to reduce barriers to remaining in school, according to the two sources reviewed.

Each winning organisation receives US$50,000 to continue its work. That is a prize for the organisation, not an announced individual grant for every participant. Nor does the distinction provide a national measure of educational success in Morocco.

The model’s relevance lies in connecting support for girls with their social environment. A prize makes an approach visible; assessing its reach then requires following participants’ pathways, the duration of support and conditions for continuity. Institutional recognition and evaluation of outcomes remain separate exercises.
