Protecting Mehdia’s coastline was the focus of a meeting organised in Kenitra on 17 October 2026 by the Moroccan Association for Green Economy, Environment and Climate Justice. Hespress reported on it on 18 October, describing a project seeking greater participation by residents and civil society.

Discussions covered waste, pollution, urban expansion and climate pressures on coastal environments. Scientific presentations also addressed the blue economy, wetlands and marine and coastal biodiversity in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region.

The project proposes bringing residents’ observations together with scientific research. According to the report, local testimony and field monitoring should help document coastal changes and identify priorities for action.

The meeting forms part of a programme announced for 1 October to 30 December 2026. A campaign for a plastic-free Mehdia beach and a local coastal protection guide are planned. This schedule sets out programme initiatives rather than results from completed pollution cleanups.
