Berkane province expects around 23,000 tonnes of pomegranates for the 2025-2026 season, within a forecast of 26,000 tonnes for the Moulouya regional agricultural development office’s intervention area. Hespress Français reported the ORMVAM figures on 19 October 2026; Le360 had reported them on 13 October.

The sector generates around 150,000 workdays a year, according to figures cited in the reports. This measures accumulated labour over a year, rather than 150,000 permanent jobs.

Marketing remains a weak point. Speaking to Hespress in Chouihia, farmer Mustapha Derouiche called for better support for small growers and their organisation into cooperatives. The report highlights a shortage of packing and processing facilities and continued reliance on traditional sales channels.

Le360 also reports losses from fruit exposed to sunlight, reducing the marketable share. The announced tonnages remain production forecasts: they establish neither the quantity ultimately sold nor growers’ net income.
